In the year 2000, despite many problems, some of those involved in production of lead & zinc in the country took the necessary steps for the foundation of the Society and in about 2001 the Iran Society of Lead & Zinc Industries & Mines was established.

At first 22 factories were members of the union, out of which only 12 were active and the rest in the process of being built. At that time Messrs. Moradlou, Vassighi Motlagh, Shafaie, Namegh and Anssari became members of the Board of Directors and after two years Messrs. Ohadi and Jamili replaced Messrs. Namegh and Shafaie. Mr. Shafaie is still active as the Society secretary.

Production of zinc bars is a new industry in Iran with a history of about 12 years. In the past Iran used to be just an importer, but through investments of the country's private sector it is estimated that more than 300 thousand tons of zinc metal will be produced this year, out of which about 100 thousand tons will be used domestically and the rest exported, and for the proper execution of this program, there should be planning.
