History of the Iranian Remote Sensing Society

The late Dr. Mohammad Najafi Disfani was the founder of the Iranian Society of Remote Sensing and GIS. In 20/7/1371 he prepared a feasibility study confirming the necessity of this society in the academic society of Iran. The request for establishing the society was presented to the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education and after the complementary stages and scientific documentation the necessity of this society was confirmed with the help of Mr. Ghafari. In 24/11/72 The Commission of Academic Societies granted an approval vote for establishing this society. In 16/8/75 the society held elections besides holding some scientific lectures by the experts of this field in Tarbiat Modares University. Dr. Alimohammadi, Mr. Jalali nasab, Mr. Jahedi, Mr. Mokkabery, Mr. Izadpanah, Dr. Parhizgar, Mr. Barzegar, Dr. Hamrah and Dr. Roshan nejad were chosen as the main members of the board of directors; Mr. Jalali and Bani hashemi were chosen as the substitute members of the board of directors; Mr. Mohammad por and Mr. Navaiee were selected as the main inspectors and Mr. Mir ghasemi and Dr. Ali Sadeghi were chosen as the substitute inspectors.

In its first meeting on 3/10/75, the board of directors chose Mr. Jahedi, Dr. Alimohammadi, Mr. Mokkaberi, and Mr. Jalali nasab as the chairman, vice chairman, secretary, and treasurer of the board of directors respectively. In the general assembly of the society in Shahrivar 1381 which was held at Shahid Beheshti University with the presence of the representative of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, the members chose the following as the new members of the board of directors: Dr. Ali Akbar Abkar, Dr. Manoochehr Faraj zadeh, Dr. Mohammad Akhbari, Mr. Majid Fakhri, Dr. Seyyed Kazem Alavi panah, Dr. Parviz Ziaian, Dr. Seyyed Jamaledin Khajedin, Dr. Fariborz Gharib, and Mrs. Simin Mehdi zadeh tehrani were chosen as the main members of the board of directors; Dr. Soleymani and Dr. Ali Asghar Al Sheikh were chosen as the substitute members of the board of directors; Mr. Seyyed Abbas Mokkaberi and Dr. Abbas Ali mohammadi were selected as the main inspectors and Mr. Ahmad Mohammad poor and Mr. Mehran Shirkavand were chosen as the substitute inspectors.

In their first meeting, the members of the board of directors chose Dr. Ali Akbar Abkar, Dr. Manoochehr Faraj zadeh, Dr. Mohammad Akhbari, and Mr. Majid Fakhri as the chairman, vice chairman, secretary, and treasurer of the board of directors respectively. The first general assembly of the society was held in Mehr 1383 at Shahid Beheshti University but since there were not enough members to form a quorum the assembly was adjourned to the next meeting.

The second general assembly was held in Aban 1383 at Shahid Beheshti University with the presence of the representative of the Ministry of Science Research and Technology and the members of the board of directors chose the following as the new members of the board of directors:

Dr. Ali Akbar Matkan, Mr. Seyyed Abbas Mokkaberi, Dr. Mohammad Akhbari, Dr. Seyyed Jamaledin Khajedin, Dr. Fariborz Gharib, Dr. Mohammad Saadi Mesgari, Mr. Seyyed Hossein Poor ali, Mr. Mehdi Saremi poor, and Mr. Hamid Reza Rabiee were chosen as the main members of the board of directors; Mr. Heshmatollah Nader shahi and Mr. Mahyar Soltani were chosen as the substitute members of the board of directors; Dr. Abbas Alimohammadi and Mr. Davoud Ashourlo were selected as the main inspectors and Mr. Ahmad Mohammad poor and Mr. Mehdi Rahnama were chosen as the substitute inspectors.

In their first meeting, the members of the board of directors chose Dr. Ali Akbar Matkan, Mr. Seyyed Abbas Mokkaberi, Dr. Mohammad Akhbari, and Mr. Hamid Reza Rabiee as the chairman, vice chairman, secretary, and treasurer of the board of directors respectively. The society has managed to register 29 honorary members, 152 permanent members, 213 affiliated members, and 165 student members so far.
